11 Songs about your Identity in Christ

Music is powerful — and can be a help or hindrance. I remember surfing the net to search for the benefits of listening to music, I saw a lot but one striking benefit that has never left me is that; Music improves the memory.

Years ago when I stopped listening to secular songs, and I wanted to get rid of those lyrics, I became extremely careful with what I listen to. I curated a playlist that consist of songs that reminds you of your identity in Christ, and this songs will help you improve your memory on who God says you are. Your ear is an access point and you must be intentional with what gets into you.

Here’s the list of songs on my Identity in Christ Playlist

1. You Say by Lauren Daigle

The issue of identity and trying to figure out how to exist when I felt like so many things were pulling me in so many different directions. I think a lot of times we build these complexes based on insecurity, based on fear, based on rejection, and lies that we have to constantly overcome. And so this song for me was just a reminder of identity. It was a reminder that I know when I’m weak, He’s strong—so how do I change that and bring that into my every day life? When I feel inadequate how is it that there’s always these moments where I feel like God just steps in and supersedes my inadequacies. This entire song was so every single day I would get up on stage and remind myself—no, this is the truth, this is the truth, this is the truth. Don’t get buried in confusion. Don’t get buried in waywardness. Just remember to steady the course, steady the course.

— Lauren Daigle

2. I know who I am by Sinach

This songs help you boldly declare who you are. It reawakens the knowledge of your identity in Christ. We are a chosen generation, We’ve been called forth to show His excellence All I require for life, God has given me And I know who I am

3. Who you say I am by Hillsong

This song tell you that only the one who gave you life has the authority to give you an IDENTITY. Do you know what I realized? Even my earthly parents have no rights to give me an identity. Or should I say their identity or labels of me, whether good or bad, is insignificant when placed side by side by what God calls me. They bore me…yes. They raised me…yes. But since they didn’t give me life, I can’t and will not draw my identity from them.

4. No Longer slaves by Bethel Music

Even our struggles with sin as believers is because we have not fully realized our identity. We still feel weak around sin and hence fall for it. We may know, but we have failed to understand that sin has lost its grip on us. Christ has broken the power and hold of sin over us. But because you don’t understand, you keep being in bondage to sin. Having freedom is one thing; walking in freedom and operating in it is another.

5. Who am I by Casting Crowns

Long ago, before God made the world, He CHOSE me to be His very own. This wasn’t an afterthought. God had me in mind even before I was created. He had a choice not to but He chose to. He knew I will mess up being human but He chose me nonetheless.

6. Thank you God for Saving Me by Chris Tomlin, Phil Wickham

We have so much to be thankful because it is by grace we’ve been saved and it is a gift from God

7. My name is by Matthew West

This song encourages us to embrace the joy and freedom that comes with knowing who you are because you know WHOSE you are.

8. Beautifully Broken by Plumb

Just by being His makes us valuable. Because of how He has created us, and loves us and sees us, we are so worthy. Sometimes we don’t believe the truth of that. Those are feelings, not facts. You are His. That’s what matters most.

9. Overcomer by Mandisa

You might be down for a moment. Feeling like it’s hopeless. That’s when He reminds You. That you’re an overcomer. You’re an overcomer.

10. The truth about me by Mandisa

This song is a reminder to see yourself the way God sees you.

11. This is amazing grace by Phil Wickhman

Put on your dancing shoes and celebrate.

In Conclusion

If you are clueless about the future or you struggle to understand how God sees you or how much you are of worth and value before God or you feel very weak and afraid to wield your believer’s authority, what you need to do is to pray that your eyes are flooded with light and revelation. Until you grasp this understanding, you will continually operate below your status as a child/son of God.
