THE SCARIEST PRAYER I EVER SAID

Have you ever uttered a prayer so powerful it sent shivers down your spine? I have, and it’s the scariest prayer I’ve ever said:

“Lord, order my steps.”

As I reflect on the past two years, I’m astounded at how far I’ve come. I’m not the woman I had meticulously planned to be, but I’m achieving things I once only dreamed of in ways I could never have imagined. This journey has made me realize that sometimes, surrendering control can lead to unexpected blessings.

I’ll admit it; I’m a “to-do list” person. I love to have every step planned out in advance. I’m a planner and a perfectionist, and I make meticulous plans that I execute with precision. But here’s the catch – everything works perfectly when I don’t sincerely pray for divine guidance.

Whenever I’ve earnestly asked the Lord to order my steps, a strange and awe-inspiring transformation takes place. I find myself at points I never anticipated, wondering, “How did I end up here?” It’s those moments when my carefully crafted to-do list is mysteriously replaced by an entirely different agenda, leading me from one off-the-list activity to another. I reach the end of the day, giving thanks for the journey, realizing I didn’t get there following my own route or terms.

Sometimes, when I sit in the place of prayer to outline a plan for an event or the day, I’m amazed by how the Lord not only orders my steps but reshapes my plans. It’s those few prayer lines that have become the scariest prayer ever – they set me on a path that is both blind and purposeful, taking me far from personal tangents and into God’s will.

If you’re someone who loves having things go your way, you’ll understand how scary it is to take a step without knowing what’s around the corner. It’s terrifying because when things don’t go according to your plan, you might fret, worry, and complain, forgetting that you asked the Lord to lead the way.

If you’ve asked the Lord to order your steps, it’s time to set aside your wish list, follow the divine lead, and trust the journey, however uncertain it may seem.

“Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go.”
