Who are you?
What do you think defines you?
Why do you often start off your identification with titles and labels?
Do you know?
People will always give remarks that will put your identity in question. Jesus had a taste of it.
Matthew 26:63
But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to Him, “I charge You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”
Circumstances will always challenge what you think you believe about yourself. And if your identity is not secure and rooted in God, you will be continuously tossed to and fro.
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
Matthew 4:3
Jesus didn’t have to prove Himself. Or prove anything. And definitely not to the devil. Or through works. God publicly named Him a Son, In Matthew 3:17 TPT Then suddenly the voice of the Father shouted from the sky, saying, “This is my Son —the Beloved! My greatest delight is in him.”
His Sonship status was not bequeathed to Him by virtue of what He did or didn’t do. But strictly a gift from God. So, He need not to do anything to prove His identity or earn an identity. And so do you!!!
One of the most profound lines I have heard surrounding IDENTITY;
Indeed, only God can give a man an identity. And true living is living true to what God says you are.
Dear friend you need to get grounded on the understanding of who you are. And Whose you belong to. Without that knowledge, you will continuously operate below your optimal status as a believer and be a pawn in the devil's hands.
All around scriptures are different lines and verses that describe our identity in God, how He sees us, who we are because we are in Christ, and our gains as a result. Remember when you find your identity in the one who created you it changes your whole perspective.
WHO I AM IN CHRIST?
I am chosen by God
And in love he chose us before he laid the foundation of the universe! Because of his great love, he ordained us, so that we would be seen as holy in his eyes with an unstained innocence.
Ephesians 1:4 TPT
I am adopted by God
For it was always in his perfect plan to adopt us as his delightful children, through our union with Jesus, the Anointed One, so that his tremendous love that cascades over us would glorify his grace.
Ephesians 1:5 TPT
I am a child of God in His family
Look with wonder at the depth of the Father’s marvelous love that he has lavished on us! He has called us and made us his very own beloved children. The reason the world doesn’t recognize who we are is that they didn’t recognize Him.
1john 3:1 TPT
I am forgiven by God for all my sins
But if we freely admit our sins when his light uncovers them, he will be faithful to forgive us every time. God is just to forgive us our sins because of Christ, and he will continue to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1john 1:9 TPT
I am reconciled to God in harmony with Him
So if while we were still enemies, God fully reconciled us to himself through the death of his Son, then something greater than friendship is ours. Now that we are at peace with God, and because we share in his resurrection life, how much more we will be rescued from sin’s dominion!
Romans 5:10 TPT
I am seen by God as holy, blameless, above reproach
Colossians 1:21-22 TPT
Even though you were once distant from him, living in the shadows of your evil thoughts and actions, he reconnected you back to himself. He released his supernatural peace to you through the sacrifice of his own body as the sin payment on your behalf so that you would dwell in his presence. And now there is nothing between you and Father God, for he sees you
as holy, flawless, and restored.
I am sealed with God’s Holy Spirit
And because of him, when you who are not Jews heard the revelation of truth, you believed in the wonderful news of salvation. Now we have been stamped with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 1:13 TPT
I am called to accomplish God’s purpose
So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together for good, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose.
Romans 8:28 TPT
Having determined our destiny ahead of time, he called us to himself and transferred his perfect righteousness to everyone he called. And those who possess his perfect righteousness he co-glorified with his Son!
Romans 8:30 TPT
I am a full citizen among God’s people
So, you are not foreigners or guests, but rather you are the children of the city of the holy ones, with all the rights as family members of the household of God.
Ephesians 2:19 TPT
I am justified- declared right in God’s sight
Romans 5:1 TPT
Our faith in Jesus transfers God’s righteousness to us and he now declares us flawless in his eyes.
I am sanctified- set apart by God’s spirit
It’s true that some of you once lived in those lifestyles, but now you have been purified from sin, made holy, and given a perfect standing before God—all because of the power of the name of the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, and through our union with the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:11 TPT
I am redeemed- bought with Christ’s blood
Since we are now joined to Christ, we have been given the treasures of redemption by his blood—the total cancellation of our sins—all because of the cascading riches of his grace.
Ephesians 1:7 TPT
I am cleansed by Christ’s blood for all my sins
1 John 1:7 TPT
But if we keep living in the pure light that surrounds him, we share unbroken fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, continually cleanses us from all sin.
I am an heir of God and a joint- heir of Christ
For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being, “You are God’s beloved child!” And since we are his true children, we qualify to share all his treasures, for indeed, we are heirs of God himself. And since we are joined to Christ, we also inherit all that he is and all that he has. We will experience being co-glorified with him provided that we accept his sufferings as our own.
Romans 8:16-17 TPT
I am Complete in Christ
And our own completeness is now found in him. We are completely filled with God as Christ’s fullness overflows within us. He is the Head of every kingdom and authority in the universe!
Colossians 2:10 TPT
I am an ambassador for Christ
We are ambassadors of the Anointed One who carry the message of Christ to the world, as though God were tenderly pleading with them directly through our lips. So we tenderly plead with you on Christ’s behalf, “Turn back to God and be reconciled to him.”
2 Corinthians 5:10 TPT
For you were included in the death of Christ and have died with him to the religious system and powers of this world. Donʼt retreat back to being bullied by the standards and opinions of religion.
Colossians 2:20 TPT
I am being conformed to the character of Christ
For he knew all about us before we were born and he destined us from the beginning to share the likeness of his Son. This means the Son is the oldest among a vast family of brothers and sisters who will become just like him.
Romans 8:29 TPT
In conclusion
It’s liberating knowing what God thinks about you. It enables you to make light of what people think or say about you. Or even do to you.
Never forget; You are who God says you are….. God has given you worth, and has defined you. Do not think and act below the standard.
