30 Days of Gratitude: Day 1 – Grateful for Mercy

How do I even begin? My thoughts are swirling, but one thing is clear: I am determined to embark on this journey of gratitude for the next 30 days. There’s so much to be thankful for, and I want to intentionally celebrate it all through this 30-Day Gratitude Series.

Today, on Day 1, I’m reflecting on Mercy.

Mercy is God’s right and sole will. Mercy is God’s right to give or not to give. So, it is not because you begged for it or cried for it. Mercy is the sole right of the giver and how and when the person chooses to give it. You cannot cajole God to be merciful to you. He will show you mercy if he wants to.

“I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy” is a Bible verse from Exodus 33:19 and Romans 9:15-16

I am she whom God has shown great mercy. My heart overflows with gratitude, In the year 2024 I enjoyed daily mercies. I’m lost for words that I can’t pen it all down.

I drink deeply from the fountain of His mercy.
I soar on the wings of His grace.
I walk through doors opened by His favor.
His mercy speaks on my behalf.

Lamentations 3:23 (TPT) captures it beautifully:
“New, fresh mercies greet me with every sunrise. So wonderfully great is your faithfulness!”

This scripture reminds me daily of God’s unwavering mercy and faithfulness, which anchor my heart in hope and gratitude.

On this first day of my gratitude series, I want to share a powerful insight from Robert Emmons, one of the world’s leading researchers on the science of gratitude. In his book Gratitude Works!, he writes:

“I believe that gratitude is the best approach to life. When life is going well, it allows us to celebrate and magnify the goodness. When life is going badly, it provides a perspective by which we can view life in its entirety and not be overwhelmed by temporary experiences. And this is what grateful people do. They have learned to transform adversity into opportunity no matter what happens, to see existence itself as a gift.”

Profound, isn’t it?

Gratitude is a perspective-changer. It magnifies the good during the highs and provides hope and clarity during the lows. It teaches us to see life—every moment of it—as a precious gift.

As I begin this gratitude journey, I invite you to join me. Let’s celebrate the beauty, the lessons, and the blessings that each day brings.

What are you grateful for today?
