I can hardly believe I’ve made it to Day 4 of this gratitude journey, and today, I’m reflecting on something so precious—safety.
In 2024, God faithfully kept me, my family, and my friends safe. My job required me to travel frequently this year, and despite the risks of air travel and road journeys, there was no plane crash, no road accident—God preserved me every step of the way.
I am especially grateful for my parents. They also traveled this year, and even when it seemed like the enemy wanted to disrupt their plans and raise fear, the Lord preserved and sustained them. They returned home safely, and I do not take that for granted. Every day my mom, dad, and siblings went to work, God’s hand of protection was over them. Whether we stayed home or went out, the Lord’s covering never failed us. Safety is truly a gift from God, one I cherish deeply.
Safety is not just an external thing—protection from road accidents, fires, or other emergencies. It’s also in the little, often-overlooked details of daily life. Think about how you use the bathtub daily and haven’t slipped or hit your head. How many times have you dozed off, exhausted from work, while cooking, yet there was no fire outbreak or emergency? These moments are also evidence of God’s watchful care.
I remember an experience during my college years that still amazes me. It was January, a time when churches typically observe the New Year fast. After a long day at school, I attended church service, returned home exhausted, and decided to boil some rice to eat. In my tiredness, I fell asleep. While I slept, the rice burned, filling the house with smoke. Suddenly, I felt a gentle touch waking me up. Startled, I woke up and found no one there. I knew it was the Holy Spirit.
The house was smoky, but by God’s grace, I handled the situation without harm. That moment reminds me of God’s protection beyond what we can see or even understand. He kept me, and I didn’t perish in that situation.
Another moment of God’s faithfulness that I will never forget happened last year. My sisters were kidnapped—a horrific and traumatic experience for our entire family. At that moment, I couldn’t even find the strength to pray. The fear and anxiety were overwhelming, but God surrounded us with people who stood in the gap, interceding on our behalf. When the ransom was paid and they were released unharmed, I knew it was only by God’s mercy and grace. He showed up in a way that left us in awe of His power and faithfulness.
When I think about how God has shown up for me, my family, and my friends, I am in awe. And I’m certain that if you take a moment to reflect, you’ll recall times when the Lord showed up for you too. When you remember, don’t forget to say, “Thank you, Lord.”
The Bible reminds us of God’s promises of safety and protection:
“The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” – Psalm 121:8
“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” – Proverbs 18:10
“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings, you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” – Psalm 91:4
Safety is not just about being protected from harm—it’s about living confidently that God is always with us, shielding us in every situation. I am thankful for His unchanging faithfulness and pray that He continues to protect us all in the days ahead.
