Day 13 – Grateful for My Career
Today, I reflect on my career journey and stand in awe of God’s faithfulness. I vividly remember the day I graduated from university with a degree in Accounting. The joy of completing that phase of my education filled my heart with hope for the future. Shortly after, I began my national youth service, and during that period, I resolved to pursue professional certification in accounting. With determination, I started my ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) journey.
At first, the process seemed smooth, and I approached each stage with enthusiasm. However, I soon faced challenges that tested my resolve. Failing a course was a difficult moment, but God reminded me that setbacks are not the end of the road. I pressed on, trusting Him for strength, and eventually, I achieved the ICAN certification. That victory taught me the truth of Romans 8:28, which says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
After ICAN, I felt a stirring in my heart to pursue more, but I didn’t know what steps to take. At the time, ICAN felt like the ultimate goal, and when I passed, I wondered, “What’s next?” Confusion set in, but God didn’t leave me directionless. Through mentors and guardians, He gave me clarity and opened new doors. With their encouragement, I secured a job, which became a foundation for growth and learning.
From that point, I knew I wanted to continue developing myself. I enrolled in an MBA program, and as I grew professionally, I also began the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) certification. Each phase brought its own challenges, but God’s grace carried me through. Just a few days ago, I received my first-semester MBA results, and I am grateful to God for enabling me to excel. Isaiah 41:10 has been my anchor throughout this journey: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Looking back, I see how God has been the architect of my career. He has turned my struggles into testimonies and my confusion into clarity. Every achievement is a testament to His faithfulness, and every lesson has prepared me for greater things ahead.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the journey matters as much as the destination. God uses every step—whether it feels like progress or delay—to shape us for His purpose. As Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.”
So, as I stand at this point in my career, I choose to celebrate every victory and every challenge. I trust God for the future, knowing that He who began this good work in me will bring it to completion (Philippians 1:6). To Him alone be the glory forever.
